If it is your dream to hunt in Africa but heard about all the bad things about bringing your favorite rifle with, you can relax, it is actually very easy to do so. Bringing hunting rifles into South - Africa is no problem at all when you use a trust worthy agent.

 What you need is a valid temporary import permit for your hunting rifle and Bob's your Uncle you ready to "Live Your Dream"

I would not recommend that any hunter try and do the importation on his own, for less than $200- you can have professional people handle your paperwork for you.

       The following firearms and ammo will not be allowed to enter South – Africa.

  • Any outomatic or semi-outomatic firearms
  • More than one firearm per caliber per person.
  • More than 200 rounds per caliber per person
  • Any pistol or revolver.

       Reasons why your application will not be approved.

  • If you have any of the above mentioned firearms or ammo
  • If any of the supporting documents as mentioned in #6 can not be produced
  • If you are less than 21 years of age.
  • If your application for a temporary import permit is refused, your firearms and ammo will be confiscated and will only be hand back to you on departure to your country of residence.

        THE ISSUING OF THE TEMPORARY IMPORT PERMITS IS FREE OF CHARGE. DO NOT PAY OR TIP ANY
          OFFICER FOR THIS SERVICE.

         If you have received your temporary import permit proceed to the red channel at customs. Declare
         your firearms and show them your temporary import permit. Proceed past customs to the arrival hall.

         Remember

  • Your Temporary permit will be your firearm licence in South-Africa and you can buy ammo for your calibers with it.
  • At all times while you are in possession of your firearms you must have your Temporary import permit with you
  • When you are not using your fire arms they must be locked in a gun safe.
